P.D.A., Engaging in

Hostility between two librarians should always be resolved in a public forum, be it at the reference desk, in a meeting, or in a pay-per-view caged death match. These public displays of aggression (P.D.A.) provide entertaining fodder for your library's gossip mill, and they offer bystanders the chance to root and cheer for their favorite library combatant.

Phew! I thought from the headline that this was going to be about Public Displays of Affection! And when the entry started in about resolving things at the reference desk or other public place ... I didn't know what I was going to be in for. I was almost relieved that it was about "P.D. Agression".

Long live the Librarian Cage Match!

So true. That's what happens when you get 10 emotionally repressed people in a confined space. If it's not public outbursts, with passive aggressive interludes, then there's no chance to build resentments, repress them, and start the cycle all over again.

Yes, that is what happens when you get 10 emotionally repressed people in a confined space or that is what happens when you have 10 normal (semi) healthy people and one "narcissistic, supervising by mother instinct" boss. Either way, every one stand back and watch the show.

Hmm, very true. I found that when I was in a very unhealthy library my worst traits were brought out as well, since there was no healthy way to express frustration.

Solution: go be a solo librarian :).

I tried that. It didn't work.

Hmm. What does it mean when your reference librarian sends this to you (aka the boss)? After a complaint session by the assistant librarian?

I must be losing it.
