Rock you, We will
Librarians should follow the rock concert model and spend the first five minutes of each library instruction class with some music to get your students in the mood for research. Before the main attraction, offer up one of these motivational selections:

"Another One Bites the Dust"
"American Idiot" by Green Day.
"57 Channels (And Nothin' On)" by Bruce Springsteen, with lyrics changed to "100,000 Google Results (And Nothin' Good)"
"Read a Book"
"Send in the Clowns"
I like to start with Galvanize by the Chemical Brothers. I hand out glow stick and do the wave.
Then we start on Medline and everyone goes to back to sleep.
I'm gonna rip off Arrested Development and go with "Final Countdown"...complete with me pulling rainbow scarves from my sleeves.
Lights off, strobe lights, "Somethin's Happen' Here...."
"What It Is Ain't Exactly Clear"....
How about Too Much Information by the Police?
"Too much information running through my brain,
Too much information driving me insane"
"Everything You Know Is Wrong" by Wierd Al Yankovicz.
Although using any Queen is appropriate, since Brian May is the chancellor of Liverpool John Moores University, I would use "The Logical Song."
Idiots Rule by Jane's Addiction
School's Out Forever?
"Communication Breakdown" by Led Zeppelin
Helpless / Neil Young.
"Computer Games" by MiSex
This little ditty from PBS's "Arthur" http://www.cfhf.net/lyrics/arthur.htm
Dr. Chris Brown-Syed at the University at Buffalo showed it on the first day of Intro and in a goofy way got us pumped.
"Grey Matter" by Oingo Boingo
"They say you can't think, that you haven't got a brain, that you're just there to listen, that you're just being trained!
There's something inside your head!
Grey matter...grey matter..."
Authority, by John Mellencamp (I fight authority, authority always wins).
"Where is my Mind" by the Pixies
"Is there anybody out there?"
Pink Floyd

We have been doing this for over a year. It's a comfort thing - quiet rooms can be uncomfortable to walk in to. Although it's not as fun as some of the titles presented, we use mainly classical, jazz, and Broadway show tunes. But for our eBay classes we do use the eBay Song by Weird Al Yankovic.
The Book I Read by the Talking Heads.
Check out Love the Liberry's soundtrack: http://lovetheliberry.blogspot.com/2006/01/soundtrack-for-tvmovie-love-liberry.html
"I'll Be Glad When you're Dead, You Rascal You", from a long-forgotten Betty Boop cartoon?
Someday (I will Find You) / Kelly Clarkson
On My Way / Phil Collins
Catch / Kosheen
(...Out off my way I'm running, I'm gonna catch you if I can...)
"The Logical Song" is Supertramp, not Queen, but still a good choice.
5th dimension by the Byrds-- "I saw the great blunder my teachers had made scientific delerium madness..."
Smells like teen spirit works, too.
"I still haven't found what I'm looking for."
Come check out our musical library warm-up on YouTube! Kicking it way Old Skool with a little Katherine Grayson.
