Guilty pleasures, Sharing your

Librarians often have guilty pleasures that belie their professional personas. Your unhealthy fascination with celebrity gossip magazines, World of Warcraft, hip hop music, romance novels, or prostitutes won't qualify as a guilty pleasure if you're shamelessly blogging about it at the reference desk.

Ask the readers: What is your biggest guilty pleasure?

It's just that I'm such a disappointment to my mother. She insists I'll never get married with such geeky interests.

Getting paid to play Magic: the Gathering and AD&D for teen programming @ the library.

BTW- my wife and I watch Star Trek all the time- we even borrow the seasons from the library- next gen, voyager, etc.

Can you say "greatest job ever"?

Just about any competitive dating show out there: Bachelor/Bachelorette, Rock of Love, Temptation Island (full episodes of the latter on Hulu!)

Anonymous said...

Harry Potter fanfic- wow. A guilty pleasure indeed. I was none to pleased with the epilogue myself, Anonymous 4:55 pm.

BTW- married people can totally watch the Trek. It's all about finding the right person to share the Kirk Shoulder Rolls with. Worry not, Trekkie- they're out there.

VH1's "I Love..." series. The "I Love the 80s" is my fav but the "I Love the New Millenium" is cool too. Weird how tech from 2001 seems so antiquated now.

I am also relieved to know that my fascination with People magazine is common among my compatriots. I am suprised no one has mentioned http://gofugyourself.celebuzz.com/, a blog which makes me laugh until I cry. I only look at it in the secrecy of my office, though.
