I have often said that our students should pass an exam and be licensed before being allowed to use our staplers. :oD
I would also like to honour the three-hole punch and the paper guillotine.
Let us not forget the pencil sharpeners, both electric and handheld.

I think if we held a moment of silence for unreturned books, we may get that kind of library that certain users dream about, the one where absolutely no sound is uttered or made.
