Bookmobiles, Celebrating

Librarians should celebrate National Bookmobile Day by going for a joyride in the library's bookmobile. If your library doesn't own a bookmobile, go for a joyride through the reference room on a fully loaded book cart.

Book carts, Maintaining your

Librarians should have their library book carts serviced annually to keep them in good working order. While it is important to rotate and balance the wheels every 7,000 miles, do not let the service technician pressure you into replacing the wipers or purchasing expensive fuel additives.

Never agree to be on a library committee without first reading its charge.  Sometimes an innocuous sounding group, like the "Collection Assessment Revisioning Team," turns out to be the code name for your library's secret book cart dance troupe. And, yes, costumes are mandatory.

Booktrucks, Loving your

Book trucks are a hot commodity in libraries. Protect them. Label them for your department so that they don't wander. Send out accusatory mass emails when they go missing. Decorate them. Rotate their tires every 7,000 miles. But please, please, please, please, please.... spare us all and don't dance with them.
