Vacationing, Checking email while
Never check your email when you are on vacation. Leave the laptop at home. If you can't give up reading email about library stuff for a week, you may have a problem. Yes, your inbox may be filled with messages in your absence, but trudging through that filled inbox is a great way to kill your first full-day (or two?) back on the job.

So what if you get so many emails from the listservs, the ones that you barely remember even subscribing to, that you use all your server space? No new emails, no problem.
Two days can easily be filled with checking your email! I love it, it's the perfect excuse: "I'm sorry I didn't know (insert your issue here), I've been on vacation. I haven't gone through all my email yet. That reminds me, I better get back to that inbox...busy....busy.." I find that if you emphasize the word vacation that helps remind your co-workers that while you were off enjoying yourself they had to stay and endure the hell of being at work.....
Amen! If you are reading email - you are working - not vacationing.
I am guilty of it myself, but that little voice in my head says, "geez, get a life."
I don't think I will ever be able to forgive myself for ruining your vacation :<(
and how about those people whose "Ura Moron is away from her desk until..." messages glut everyones e-mail?
Never read your emails while on vacation but save important emails up till you are on leave then send them to make it seem you are work fixated. Always send your important emails from home at odd hours to create an workaholic persona for yourself.
