Jobs, Helping people find

Libraries can make themselves relevant during tough economic times by hosting resume writing workshops and job fairs. Your recently laid-off library staff and unemployed new library school graduates will thank you for helping them get jobs at McDonald's.

They have jobs at McDonald’s?! Sweet. There will probably be better opportunities for advancement there, since no one ever leaves here. I’m dumping this dead-end library job – Head Fry Cook, here I come.
What would be really great is if I gained employment at a McDonald’s in a Wal-Mart. That's gold.

Preach on Anon. Indeed, libraries having to provide job assistance to unemployed librarians and paraprofessionals. The irony is just too much. Not that ALA would notice.

Love it! If your employees are just coping with furloughs, pay cuts, and/or no raises, you can help them find part time jobs to bring in some extra cash. how about spamming people on twitter with fake accounts! hey, you're on the internet anyway...

It's the elbowing the long-term homeless folks out of the way in order to get to a computer in the library so I can DO the job search after my furlough from the library that'll be the real pain.

They'll look at me with scorn in their bloodshot eyes and sneer "Amateur!" under their breath.

Maybe if I'm nice one of them will teach me how to scam extra computer time out of the system. (Although, judging from the paucity of library job ads recently, maybe I won't need extra time on the computer.)

Since, according to one famous blogger who will remain nameless, librarians who are 65+ are going to stick around until they have cataracts, hip-replacements and full-blown dementia, the job shortage will last about another 20 years.

Librarians who are 65+ have to stick around for another 20 years because they've never made enough at their job to have anything for retirement...

Scams designed to hurt jobseekers appear in the ‘real world’, but in addition, reliance on modern day technology leaves us all the more vulnerable. Whether you are posting your resume on job sites or receiving e-mails as part of your networking efforts, there is an increasing need to protect yourself.

The best way that I've found to look for work is to search online. There's a lot of jobs databases now that have hundreds of listings for just about any type of work you can imagine...well, maybe not any, but certainly a lot.

Graduated with honors-no job 8 months later. Not even that many places to actually send a resume to (at least within a 3 hour drive)! This year I've gone from only knowing one person without a job-to only knowing two people who still have jobs.

Part time jobs are really a great boon to people who are in need of it. Jobs in library are interesting. Because, nothing much to do, stick to the chair & hang over. If librarian is a reader can read numerous books without any cost.
