Librarians rarely have occasion to use professional business cards. Once you've given one of your cards to each member of your family and to your friends, the initial "Hey, I just got new business cards!" excitement may begin to fade. Now you find yourself with a dusty box tucked away in the bottom drawer of your desk.
Below, you will find a list of
practical uses for librarians who find themselves trying to unload some business cards:
- making short grocery lists on the back
- entering "free entree" drawings at your favorite fast food joint
- makeshift bookmarks
- luggage tags

They're also great for cleaning the spaces between the keys in your keyboard.
The sticky end of a Post-It (that you are about to toss, of course) is also good for getting crumbs out of the keyboard.
Business cards are also great for attaching to CD cases to identify them as yours. I also use outdated ones to create art with.
They're also handy for getting that last little bit of chicken salad out of your teeth.
Does anyone else take them to library conferences to put in for drawings for IPods and other such giveaways?
Also, I've used almost 500 by cutting the ends off to make labels for my hanging file folders. They are just the right width, used sideways. And since we have a new logo and a prettier design, I've been eager to get rid of the old ones for over a year now.
Hey I just came across an article with several ideas for alternative ways to use business cards.
Ok.... What about giving them out when you hook up with someone? I have found that regaling my coworkers with tales of my sexy email correspondence really raises my cache here.
Ha, you're totally wrong - they're in a dusty box tucked away in the TOP drawer of my desk.
Wow! That's interesting, I'd recommend getting your custom business cards from http://www.printsmadeeasy.com, they do great work and have awesome values. Check them out!
My company insists we all have our photo on our business cards. I'm rather reluctant to hand mine out consequently.
