Staff break room, Using the

Feel free to leave expired dairy products, decomposing produce, and months-old Mexican leftovers in the library’s staff refrigerator. Leave exploded gravy from your frozen Lean Cuisine lunch to dry on the interior walls of the staff microwave. Leave empty ice trays and dirty coffee mugs in the library’s break room sink for someone else to wash.

But never allow a patron to bring food or drink into the library. Patrons are filthy, dirty people.

And don't forget the teaspoons in the cutlery drawer: each should look as if it had recently been used for a colonic scraping.

Naturally, the break room table should look as though it just survived the aftermath of the crafts portion of afternoon storytime.

But let's not forget the dubious offerings other staff leave on the table for the consumption of others.

Jar of pickles, 2 years past the expiration date? Check.
Bizarre vegan sweet potato chips that taste of cardboard dipped in Mrs. Dash? check.

Generosity at its finest. (And yes, all found in my break room!)

we not only let customers eat in the library (all over the computer keyboards if they wish) no one stops them when they help themselves to the staff level kitchen to microwave their meals! As for the fridge, we can only assume the entitled patrons assume that food is funded by their tax dollars. Lucky us, more people to clean up after!

We have year old yogurt, ten month old carrots and fermented apple juice from my kids programs in our staff refrigerator and once the director can no longer get her lunch in the refrigerator we have a mass clean out.

We'd take your gross one any day.

We have "private" microwaves all over our work area--very convenient for those who are too lazy to walk to the staff room. The smell of microwave popcorn, broccoli, fish, and dozens of other daily lunch choices creates an atmospheric calamity.

I feel very very lucky to have a clean cheerful breakroom. It has floor to ceiling windows inside and a small patio with a table and chairs outside.
We have each department clean out the refridge at the end of each month. And at our giveaway table we give away things like hot McDonalds french fries and fruit from the garden. It is all good.

My personal favorite, leave an open can of soda in the fridge with no lid or covering for a week. Then when an email goes out saying, "Please don't leave open soda cans in the fridge because one spilled and made a huge sticky mess" mention to a co-worker, "that was my soda and I was going to drink it, I just forgot." That happened over and over and the guilty party seemed completely oblivious to the fact that it was unacceptable. They may have forgotten it amongst their constant diet Cokes on their desk.

I don't know what our break room is like because I leave the building for lunch. nice park across the street, great pizza and chinese down the block. I'm here 7+ hours, why would I spend my free hour in the building?
