Stools, Kick

The perfect gift for a newly minted library school graduate is not a Nancy Pearl doll, a book of temporary librarian tattoos, or one of the wonderful items from the Librarian's Guide to Etiquette online store.  Instead, buy your aspiring librarian his or her own library kick stool to represent the big step they are taking from being "a graduate student" to being "unemployed."

In that case it would be a stool you can kick when you get those inevitable rejection letters.

If you're talking about what I think you're talking about (those three-wheeled round metal step "ladders" one is constantly tripping over in the stacks), I've always referred to them as "truncated Daleks". Exterminate! Exterminate!

as a newly minted (albeit unemployed) librarian, i'd rather have that cool leather catsuit worn by catwoman. (halle berry, not eartha kitt)

Way too close to home, this one!

(Incidently, I've already been given two Nancy Pearl dolls. If I collect five, can I turn them in for a free job?)

For some odd reason my mom bought me a librarian mug before I even entered my MLIS program. I've graduated and still haven't used it because it just seems wrong until I actually have a job.

Oh, as an MLIS student, this is all so...sad.
