Signs, Making patrons read

Frustrated with patrons who won't read the signs you have hanging throughout your library? Here are some tips...
  1. Invest in a newer, bigger, shinier, more colorful sign that reads, "PLEASE READ ALL SIGNS @ YOUR LIBRARY."
  2. Subliminally sneak random naughty words into your signs (e.g., "NO porn sex FOOD naked OR DRINKS IN xxx adult THE LIBRARY")
  3. Add the following language in small print to the bottom of all existing signs: "Patrons who do not read signs are subject to eye rolls, sassing, or even bodily harm from the librarian on duty."

I have a sign that says Unattended children will be given an espresso and a free puppy.

People read it occasionally and laugh. They think I'm kidding.

Personally, I like the "I have PMS and a handgun.. any questions?"

I have always dreamed of putting up a sign in the children's area that says "If you wouldn't leave your purse or wallet unattended here, don't leave your child unattended".

my fav library sign is one at an oklahoma library posted with a list of NO--
the second word is GUNS.
There are about eight items on the list, but this one gets your attention.

Oh, and they are not kidding.

Um, okay, but could you tell me where the restrooms are? Over by the sign that says "Restrooms"?? Huh, okay then, thanks.

How prominent is your "restrooms" sign? They are often hidden in the clutter of other signs, and when you have a preschooler doing the bathroom jig, you don't want to mess around!

This is fabulous! We have a sign on our circ desk that reads "No Children Allowed On The Counter". At least five times a day we have people ask "Does that mean adults can get on the counter? Har har har...".
