Birthday, Broadcasting your

Start reminding your coworkers about your upcoming birthday weeks in advance. It is your responsibility to make sure they have time to collect enough money to buy you that 2GB iPod nano you've been wanting.

We prefer an institutionalized policy of having a monthly "celebration" of all staff birthdays (since "institutionalized" and "celebration" go so well together). This celebration involves a standard plain cake; however, if one of the Director's Favorites has a birthday during a particular month, the director brings in a special cake. (The secretive nature of the regime has turned us all into Soviet analysts, paying attention to who stands next to whom and other clues.)

Happy Birthday, J. I know how old you are!

After all, aren't we all embarrassed if we forget a close colleague's birthday ? I'm just trying to save my co-workers that horrible feeling that a birthday may have been missed - hence the posters, the e-mail to 'all library staff', the constant mentions of 'the upcoming event'...
In return, I do bring in nice cakes or home-made biscuits.
