Reference desk, Timeliness at the

Librarians should be aware that showing up two minutes late for your reference desk shift will make your colleagues hate you. Your fellow librarians are petty people who measure their grievances in minutes and seconds.

Only if its 5pm and you don't get to go home until they get there. Especially if its every week, not just once.

But it's perfectly OK to leave the desk unstaffed for quarter of an hour at the end of day while you wander off, empty your bowels, pack your backs, get your coat and hang around the clocking-out machine until the dead stroke of closing time.

Ah yes! We are constantly chasing that moment when we can escape the desk and eat, read or gossip about our previous desk shift...good times...

It's also ok to leave early EVERY WEEK because you are supposed to cover the desk until 6 but you have to pick your kids up BEFORE 6 from daycare 15 MINUTES AWAY EVERY WEEK. But if you come in 5 minutes late in the morning, you're an effing slacker. Especially if you never adopted any Asian babies to pick up from daycare.

does anyone out there actually enjoy desk shifts? it reminds me of working at burger king, but there's nothing to snack on.
