A good librarian will go to library conferences and sit through mind-numbing presentations made by other librarians. Repeat this mind-numbing ritual over and over again for three solid days, and you will be mentally ready to go back to your job at the library.

No, no. Actual librarians don't get to go to conferences at all. Only management who never interact with the public get to have a vacation on the library's dime. In addition to going to the conference with all rooming, food, travel, etc. covered for a week or more, they will also earn compensatory time for any hours they are awake. This is a good way to make sure they never have to come to work at all.
Hmm... I'm an actual librarian who actually interacts with the public, and I go to conferences.
Somebody is bitter...and I don't blame them.
True at public libraries, only top brass go. At academic libraries, we have to go and present powerpoints to each other or we lose our jobs. I'm planning on cutting out and going to museums the whole time. Don't tell anyone I missed another opportunity to talk about information literacy.
