Pencils, Supplying free
Provide complimentary pencils to your patrons so that they can write down call numbers from your online catalog. Just be sure the provided pencils are small golf pencils. Nothing says, "We value your patronage," like an awkward writing experience and the resulting hand cramps.

Well, beggars can't be choosers.
I always use the stubby pencils when I am at the desk where patrons will see me and then generate a look of confusion when anyone complains about the little guys.
"What? You don't like these little pencils?? I love the way it makes me feel like I am playing a round of miniature golf when I am really sitting at this desk while a monsoon rages outdoors!"
Of course my office is stocked with full-size, extra sharp, multi-colored pencils, but they don't need to know that.
It is especially nice that the golf pencils may be used only once or twice.
Try sharpening those little suckers.
ha! i have convinced the library to purchase mechanical pencils to give out as a promotional tool. mechanical pencils rock!
my branch manager is too effing cheap to buy golf pencils, dude. she spent all our supply money on a rug for her office.
Also, make sure they're never sharp.
The stubby pencils may be horrible to write with, but it doesn't stop people from stealing them
