Calls, Returning
If a patron calls five minutes after the library closes and leaves a long, rambling, desperate voicemail message on your reference desk phone, it is perfectly acceptable to wake the patron with a return call five minutes before the library opens at 7:00 AM.

It is also perfectly acceptable that your response be long, rambling and desperate.
When getting the patron's answering machine, its necessary to sigh aggressively and promptly hang up.
I love it. That actually just happened to me and I finally had to tell her: Listen, were closed right now the computers are down (little white lie) but we are open tomorrow at 9 and the computers will be up and running for you. She went quite and said oh you guys ARE closed aren't you? Then hanged up. Wow.
When you call at 7am, crumble paper in your hand next to the phone and pretend you are the raspy library auto-call as you ramble on and on.
Finally, some common sense ideas. Very good.
