Observation, The power of

Librarians should assess their own teaching effectiveness by following students into the stacks and watching them search.

Gah!!! I loathe it when someone is near me when I'm searching. And whenever I pull out a book and set it to the side on the empty shelf space, someone has to come along and notice it... and put it back. While I'm a foot away looking for more books. I feel too embarassed to say anything so I wait until they go away. But I don't mind because this is usually the most interaction with people I have to put up with when I'm at the library.
