Procrastination (Now!), Stopping
A good librarian will always be on the lookout for his or her colleagues who are prone to procrastination. Be vigilant as you patrol for the following behaviors @ your library:

They read the archives of the Librarian's Guide to Etiquette.
Dust shelves and wash tables—despite a surplus of able bodied custodians and pages.
Redoing work that other people have already done
I have personally witnessed reference desk golf pencil sharpening.
Am envious of the poster who actually has custodians who dust shelves and wash tables.
Ditto about being envious of the custodians. We have one guy who comes "from de islands, mon" and if we don't clean then it stays dirty!
Buying things off of eBay, hiding in the supply closet, hiding in other people's cubiles, text messaging in the stacks, hiding in the staff bathrooms, going out to their car and then "forgetting" to come back...
Yep, I work with a bunch of go-getters.
Wandering to other parts of the library to chat.
make elaborate photo-shopped screen savers for the public terminals. Such as: "please push in your chair when you are done"
Coming in late every morning. Looking at her own cycling pictures online. Purchasing shoes from Zappo's during work time. Going "upstairs" to gossip & back-stab other co-workers.
Oh, sorry, this was about procrastination.
Cleaning the Windows with window cleaner during lunchtime hours, Re-organizing the head librarian's desk and the best thing: Having a Tea Party.
Reorganizing the unread piles of catalogs on your desk.
Playing Bejeweled online.

Reading the Facebook pages of other libraries.
Making the rounds and trash-talking other departments.
Hiding in the Pit with visiting family member chatting.
Talking on cell phone in rear stairwell out of security camera view.
Cutting up book request slips one at a time for an entire day instead of doing it in 5 minutes on our cutter :-)
Making "day of the week" cards and laminating them in different colors.....making this self created job stretch out for a week. Yup! 14 small business size cards.
Making business cards and flyers for you side "mowing" business.
